Head of GMP Project 



Salary - DOE

My client, a leading gene therapy organisation is looking for a Head of GMP Project based in Northern Europe.


The main responsibilities will include:

-Designing and constructing the GMP facility and supporting functions as defined in the project plans

-Coordinating procurement activities for service, contractors and equipment for the GMP project and supporting function

-Coordinating the preparation of tendering materials, supplier evaluation and contracting

-Monitoring and expediting of contracts

-Process mapping, qualification and validation activities

-Communicating the progress of the project and any changes in it

- Responsible for preparing and maintaining Master Schedule / Top level Roadmap planning, including construction, engineering, procurement, construction management, process development and regulatory activities

- Responsible for coordinating the preparation of GMP facility related documentation for FDA Pre-Approval Inspection


The ideal candidate will hold a MSc or equivalent in Engineering with a proven track record of managing pharmaceutical engineering projects and will have extensive experience in GMP/FDA Compliance.

This role requires you have great planning, organisation and communication skills.

Discretion, accuracy and ability to work independently and as a team member according to existing guideline and willingness and ability to improve current practices and guidelines is also essential for this role.

Job Description

Our client is building a new large- scale biologics manufacturing facilty in Ireland and is looking to add an Upstream Manager (MS&T) to their team to lead a group of scientists that are involved in the design and execution of experiments for inocula, seed train, bioreactor, filtration, and centrifugation, unit operations


Key Responsibilities will include:

-Providing technical leadership and expertise for investigation and resolution of upstream process deviations, root cause investigation, CAPA’s, process improvements, scale down model development new technology evaluation and preparation of regulatory fillings

-Demonstrating a strong knowledge of cGMP compliance and regulatory agency requirements and procedures

-Supporting process technology transfer, process validation and the preparation of CMC documentation for regulatory filings for the Large Scale Cell Culture facility

- Authors technical documents, including protocols, reports and SOP’s supporting the validation of the manufacturing upstream process

-Participating in the preparation of regulatory filling documents and inspection readiness

-Providing process subject matter expertise for regulatory inspections and other interactions with regulatory agencies


The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of a BSc or equivalent in a Biological Sciences, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or related discipline. You will have relevant experience in upstream manufacturing technical support or upstream process development in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Proven experience in successful execution and management of process development technical transfer and experience in the design and modification of biologics cell culture unit operations are also essential requirements for this role.

You will also have proven project management skills that include leading cross functional teams and effectively balancing project assignments with other duties.

Experience with biopharmaceutical regulatory submission and interaction with regulatory agency inspectors is required.

Field Based (with some international travel)

- Liaison with clients to ensure completion of audit related operations within the required timescale

- Undertaking audits in line with relevant procedures

- Compiling detailed reports of visits and findings in a timely manner

- Undertaking review of corrective actions and when necessary revert to client for further information / detail

- Liaison with Audit Administrator / Certification Administrator / Certification Coordinator / Travel Coordinator regarding the Certification as necessary.

- Undertaking review of third party reports for clients

- Overseas travel and overnight stays.

- Undertaking non-conflicting consultancy service as required.

- Keeping up to date with legislation and relevant Codes of Practice and approved BRC product category competence.



- BRC Certified

- Food Technology / Science or industry-related qualification

- Industry experience according to specific audit protocol / scheme requirements

- Lead Auditor trained – according to protocol / scheme requirements

- HACCP trained - at least Intermediate / Level 3

This role will suit someone who is looking to move into a commercial sales role in the healthcare industry, and looking to gain account management experience. Previous sales / customer service experience an advantage.

This is an office based role which will develop into a face to face customer role, with territorial responsibility, as time progresses.

The Account Executive will work within the clinical/medical commercial industry, assisting with the sales of medical equipment across various sectors that include; laboratory test kits, chemicals and reagents to Clinical, Pharmaceutical and Industrial laboratories. 


Your main responsibility will be to support a group of client accounts and ensure that the company are exceeding customer expectations and providing a market-leading customer experience by:

- Developing and executing sales strategy for client accounts

- Completing product focussed market research and sales campaigns

- Working closely with the account managers to ensure all client requirements are achieved

- Growing sales within the territory / client accounts

- Completing preparatory work for client business reviews
